    Never used a deer cam so not sure how or if this would work. Is it possible to use a deer cam for motion detection and surveillance?

    If all you want are pictures. Yes
    There are some that have wifi download though. And some take video. Depends on what you are willing to pay for. Home surveillance setup might be cheaper tough.

    the small game cams would be great for recording what goes on around your house.
    Just hide them well.. If a thief discovers it, he might take it with him if he thinks there is evidence on it
