People forget the woes folks went through back in the 30's and today don't have the demeanor or character or for that matter pride to do what ever it takes to legally make a living.
So you can't afford the big house, new cars; well down size and live on what you can make.
Sooner or later it all comes full circle.

the reaction is the welfare mentality.

I was working an well explosion near Houston a few years back as an insurance adjuster in a poorer part of the area.

I had many a claimant ask if I was the guy giving out the free rebate checks.

My response was always yes, sign here...

I also worked a flood in Chicago in 96. I worked the SE side of the city.
I had a LEO ask if I had a gun, I told him no, he told me to go home and get one. (I had mine)

I found I was a target until word got around I was giving out "po'po checks"

Could have been the kevlar I had on but they though I was a cop giving away money
