As the title line says I'd like to buy an AR-15 pistol lower. I'm not really concerned about the condition as long as it is operational. I am wanting it so that I can get started on the upper that will eventually go onto an SBR as soon as I receive the stamp.

Let me know what you have and maybe we can work a deal.

I'm in the DFW area on weekends and in the Midland/Odessa area during the week.

An AR-15 lower is neither a rifle or a pistol until it is built into one for the first time.

Don't know that you're gonna find a used stripped one in this market. Found some online for $100.

    Good luck.

Don't care if its stripped. My understanding may be off. Can I just dedicate one of my lowers as a pistol lower and put a pistol tube on it? I was thinking that it had to be marked/engraved as a pistol lower. I'm really not wanting to go to Federal Pound Me In The Ass Prison so I'm not wanting to walk even a thin line on this one.

My understanding is, in order for it to legally be put together as a pistol, it can never have been a rifle. I was told, my best course of action, was to buy a virgin lower and make sure it was sold as "other". I did exactly that, rather than risk using my used lower I purchased from a member. Since I didn't know the history I felt it was the best course if action to avoid any legal issues.

I guess I just have to ask this question then. If I have a stripped lower that has never been made into anything can I use it to build my pistol out of? What's to stop me from taking one of my rifle lowers and taking the stock off and adding a pistol tube. No feds know that it was ever a rifle. There's a lot of gray area here. I think I'm just going to wait for the stamp.

Don't think there's anything stopping you and I doubt it would ever be an issue. However, erring on the side of caution, I purchased a new one.

I don't know for sure, but thought I heard that the "once a rifle, always a rifle" thing had been clarified by the ATF.

Not that it matters to me, since I went the other route, but clarified yes or clarified not really.
