Die Hard is not exactly about Christmas

It is about a family in trouble coming together for the holidays to heal a rift. Along the way, there are ups and downs that the family must work through together. Various characters have a role to play in the healing process, and they too learn some important lessons about how precious life is. In the end, the family does come together in time to celebrate a joyous Christmas. Die Hard is not a traditional Christmas movie, but it definitely has many of the themes present in a Christmas movie. Now, if McClane went to Nakatomi to rob the party goers and found himself in a gunfight with terrorist/thieves, then that would be an action film.

First of all, it was a Hollywood adaptation of the novel 'Nothing Lasts Forever' by Roderick Thorp. A retired New York police detective goes to Los Angeles in order to see his daughter and grandchildren. Not to reconcile with his wife that took a job in Los Angeles straining their relationship. The book and the movie used Christmas as a reason for having a party at a business, which gave the terrorists an opportunity. It didn't have to be on Christmas, that's just an excuse. It's not really about Christmas, therefore, not a Christmas movie.

TV news 3-4 nights ago reported Christmas Vacation as #1 Christmas movie, It's A Wonderful Life #2, & Die Hard #3. I've only watched it once so far this season.
