If I need road food, I’ll get something to-go from a restaurant that ostensibly serves real food.

E.g. I’ll get fries and some brisket, or a cut link, from a BBQ drive-thru and eat it while driving.

I’ll also eat Chick Fil A chicken nuggets on rare occasion. At least it’s cut from a solid breast.

Unless I'm missing something, Subway is probably classed as fast food, but I do like them and they seem to have fresh and decent food. The bread is baked fresh daily.

I hate the way fast food has seemingly declined in quality. It used to be that you could get a cheap but decent burger, fries, and a drink for $5. Now that's $10 and the burger is garbage. Every place I know that makes a burger decent enough to eat will wind up charging $15 to $20 for one person by the time you add in fries and a drink.

$20 for a decent fast food meal is either silly or I'm just too old. Either way, my willingness to eat fast food has declined precipitously of late.

An old friend of mine who went to be with the Lord some decades ago observed that a burger, fries and drink at a hamburger joint (fast food, not the fancy burger places) has always cost about one hours work at minimum wage (he was referring to 1920 on). Pretty much holds true over the years. Whataburger combo is about $8.

I had a triple bypass 10 years ago after passing my annual treadmill stress test. He said I was looking great but my was chest hurting. Did one of those catheters up my groin and saw my LAD (widow maker) was clogged 99%, another was 100% and another 70%. If I hadn't said my chest was hurting, I could have been a dead man before got to parking lot or next day or week. Seeing the scar where they literally sawed me open for the bypasses wasn't enough to change my life of eating wrong, thinking I had a new heart now so go for it. In October I had two heart attacks in 15 hours, the second while in ER and said I now had 4 branch arteries completely clogged but too risky for stents so put me on nitro and bunch of other crap. Barely walked without popping a nitro. My life sucked suddenly with no hope it seemed. Found a specialist who did stent one of the arteries in June to increase blood flow to left side of my heart and the before and after pics are very awesome to see. Feel much better, more energy, no chest pains and walking on treadmill 3 days a week at cardiac rehab. This is a very long answer to a simple question, but only way I know how to answer it. I lived a life on fast food and came close to knocking on Heaven's door, very close. I lost 40 pounds since January and labs best ever been and only eat fast food at Chick-fil-A with a side salad and grilled nuggets for lunch once a week. Out of spite I tried a Whataburger and fries (my old reliable fix) and could only eat a few bites and got up and left, my taste buds weren't having it. It wasn't the same and good riddance...

One of the few that I can relate to that is Dairy Queen. As a youngster, that was about the only fast food my grandparents would eat at, and that was a rare occasion. But there is huge difference in quality of the food compared to then and to now.

Some of the other fast foods, I can't compare them since many of them other than Pizza Inn or Pizza Hut I never even ate until at least the mid 1980's or so and even then it was occasional. Even back then one of my favorite places to eat was Pitt Grill!

Once I found Sonic and Whataburger, they kind of became my go to fast food places to eat if I was in big hurry and needed fast food.

A guilty pleasure is Taco Bell! Probably some of the worst quality of food for fast food, but I do love Taco Bell.

I've told it before but it's worth repeating.

My sister had the joy (not!) of entertaining her in-laws for a couple of weeks some 30+ years ago. Among the things she did was try to expose them to some very good Tex-Mex via multiple restaurant visits.

Her bitch MIL said, right before they left, that she was glad they could get back to Ohio where they could eat "real Mexican food" from Taco Bell.

Pearls before swine, I suppose.

I do not eat fast food except on rare occasions…maybe a couple times a year. Have stayed away from fast food for at least 30 years now. I can make a good green chili cheese burger at home on the grill.

Years ago, when my kids were young they always wanted to eat at McDonalds if we were away from home. On one occasion we stopped at McDonalds and ate because it would be late by time we got home. I ate about half of a quarter pounder with cheese and when I got home I gave the meat and cheese that was left to my dog without thinking. She was an Akita. She walked over and eyed the half of a burger patty and sniffed it, then she looked at me and sort of rolled her eyes and went back over and laid down, she refused to touch that meat. It was as if to say she could not believe what I was giving her to eat…

I continue to read fast food and sit down restaurants are paying upwards of $15.00 an hour for dishwashers and more for wait staff, have you that eat out a lot noticed a big jump in cost for a say a cheeseburger, fries and coke?

I don't know if these wages hold true here in Texas, but I guess so, but don't really know....thus my question.

Thanks!
Fast food is relative.. deer are fast- Mule Deer I mostly shoot while standing, rarely when running. Does that make them fast food?
