One old man that criminals would do well to avoid like the plague is an elderly Korean War vet of the 1st Inf Division, who lives near Poteet, TX.

Last fall he "took out" an armed home invasion robber with his WWII vintage M1 Garand & last Wednesday evening, he captured two armed burglars & held them for the BCSD.
(I heard that one of the 2 thugs said, "I thought that old fart was going to kill me.")

Challenging an experienced combat veteran is a REALLY dumb idea, as such ex-GIs have likely shot more than one person at some time or other.
