30 gallon and 10 gallon galvanized trash cans with lids.

Bond a wire on each set of cans from the lid to the body leaving slack so the lid can be opened.

The larger can be grounded from the outside to a cold water pipe, or low impedance ground to a ground rod. Using metal braid is even better instead of wire.

Take items to protect and wrap in bubble wrap or in a cardboard box that will fit in the smaller can. Add "foam peanuts" to the bottom of the smaller can put cardboard box inside and then fill with peanuts to top and close lid.

Add "foam peanuts" to the larger can on the bottom about 12 to 15 inches, then place smaller can with lid closed on top of the peanuts ensuring that there is no metal to metal contact between the cans. Fill the large can with peanuts to the top.

Close lid tightly on large can and ensure that it is bonded to a low impedance ground.

This should provide > than 80 dB attenuation to all three components (E1,E2, and E3) of an EMP attack using nuclear air burst at altitude or near field conventional EMP weapons.

This would work for a cache of radios, laptops, or other sensitive device that will fit in the smaller can.

Any items in the box or smaller can should be bubble wrapped.

Grounding is not as important for LOW power signals. Even a signal in little old Kilowatts can leak into your cage if it is NOT grounded. Cell 'phones and key fobs are very pow power devices.

On another note, if you have a COMPANY cell phone, you need to have a small Farrady cage-like a candy tin to put the 'phone in when you are not on the clock. I knew of several people fired because the boss said they spent too many hours in the beer joint when they were on their own time!

A couple of suggestions. First never use foam packing peanuts. They are static generators.Stick your arm in a box of them and you'll see what happens! Use peanuts made from corn starch if you feel the need to use something. Don't use regular bubble wrap. Use the pink bubble wrap. It is used for electronics. Better yet is the pink zip lock bags which are also anti static.

Yes, using muselage peanuts and ESD resistant bags/wrap will help minimize triboelectric fields and ESD zapping critical components. Saw dust is another insulator that would work for the "fill" component.

Sounds like a good place to get fired from. Glad they were let go and don’t have to worry about being spied in by the company anymore.
