"Elephant Rifle" = takes an elephant to manage the recoil......To All,
WHAT exactly is an "ELEPHANT RIFLE"?? = W.D.M. Bell killed a GREAT many elephants with a .275 Rigby/7x57mm Mauser, so most any CF rifle would work IF you are a GOOD SHOT & have as many GUTS as "Karamoja" Bell obviously had.
(ONE of the many true stories about Bell's quips was when a "sportsman" at a NYC private club. who was "in his cups", was loudly bragging about how well that he had killed a great deal of dangerous game at 200 yards. - Bell turned to a friend & quietly said, with his usual "British understatement", "I would be rather more impressed if he had taken his dangerous game at two yards.")
Further, my Model 760 Remington pump-rifle, that Jessie at JES reformatted for me from .30-06 to 9.3x62mm, is fully capable of taking an elephant, especially "up close & personal".

A few years back at the annual machine gun shoot 2 of the friends brought their dangerous game rifles rifles. A .460 Weatherby bolt gun & a .500 Nitro Express double rifle. I should have brought my .416 Rem Mag, but it was the machine gun shoot.
The recoil varies from bitch slap to push. I caught big hell for not wanting to shoot the .460, but figure it just as bad as my .416. My .416 was built knowing I'd carry it more then shoot. And when shooting it @ game the recoil wouldn't even come to mind unless it detached a retina!
