Also In San Antonio it is illegal to have a lock blade, but swiss army is OK. Anti gang thing.
So if you're not in a gang, it's legal to have a blade that locks open? Laws like this may be targeted towards a certain group, but in reality they effect everyone. The point of these laws is to increase the chances of being able to catch someone breaking some law (doesn't matter what law) when randomly stopping people.

I'm glad to hear that assisted opening knives are not a "gray area". I remember reading awhile back that there was one county trying to nail people with illegal knife charges because of their assisted openers, but I can't find that article anymore.

I carry a Gerber that I bought about 7 years ago. I use it every day at work and it has proved to be invaluable. Some people can't leave their house without their cell phone, I can't leave mine without my Gerber in my pocket.

Negative. The only way to prove you're not in a gang is through the justice system. That means arrest, bond, etc.

I recently bought a Sheffield Superior. It's sturdy and holds an edge, but the pocket clip tends to snag on things. Some don't like the rubber on the grip but I like it just fine.

Before that, I carried a Gerber Paraframe. When I bought the Sheffield, I gave this one to my girlfriend, and now it's her daily carry.

When my grandfather passed away, I was given all his old pocket knives. The Schrade Scrimshaw sc511 never leaves my keychain. I've never once sharpened it in eight years and it still has a razor edge.

My EDC is a Kershaw Shallot. It's a little larger than the Leek and it has a Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel blade that holds a better edge than my leeks. It is also a Ken Onion assisted opened, like the Leek. I have Kershaw Chives, Scallions, Leeks and Shallots in Damascus blades as well. I have many other Kershaw, Spyderco, Boker, Benchmade, Case and other knives. I know, I have a little problem with knives, guns and flashlights.

    FYI.....
    (11) "Switchblade knife" means any knife that has a
blade that folds, closes, or retracts into the handle or sheath, and
    that:
    (A) opens automatically by pressure applied to a
button or other device located on the handle; or
    (B) opens or releases a blade from the handle or
sheath by the force of gravity or by the application of centrifugal
    force.

So I guess that if you touch the blade to release it, it is ok. Hope so, both of the ones I listed, are assisted. lol

Kershaw Zing comes in a Damascus Steel that is really nice.

yep. ive seen a few people that have had custom scales made for them also.

i dont really like kershaws knives that much, simply because of the lack of premium steels. if you want a good steel with a kershaw you have to buy one of the $100+ models. if im gonna spend that much i might as well go with a ZT or a spyderco.

I have a very slim bladed standard folder with wooden grips. Its a knock off of a Frost product mde in India. Blade is long thin and razor sharp. Perfect pocket knife for about $10 at Flea markets. I guess I lose 2 a year, but have always had a pocket knife.

It really kind of depends on where I'm going and what I'm going to need to use it for. Usually my everyday carry knife is a Lone Wolf Defender, one of the Paul series. If I think I may need my knife for SD or heavy duty application, I'll use my Emerson Commander. Otherwise, it stays on my Maxpedition bag. I've also got a RAT Cutlery RC-4; I modified the sheath for IWB carry using the clips from a Comp-Tac holster. I never really carry it that much, though.
