    Summary:

Doing something ≠ something being effective
Local solutions* may be more effective than federal solutions
Local solutions can range from see something say something to full up surveillance/snitching.

That first point is key. As soon as I saw that Yertle wanted "an outcome", I knew he meant "sign something into law", not "save some innocent lives". If he really understood and meant the latter, I could probably get behind him.

evidence suggests that while red-flag laws do stop suicides, it isn’t clear they prevent mass shootings.

Alas, far from empowering these local leaders to act when they spot trouble—teachers, scoutmasters, pastors, police chiefs, shopkeepers, coaches—we have spent the past half century undermining their authority.

I heard a young man in my classroom state at high volume: "I'm going to get a gun and kill some of these people!" I got on the phone immediately and called for Administrative help. It took a while to end this fiasco, but the Administrative position centered on my hatred for that kid and my desire to make trouble for him!

    I'd never step up, again!

That’s part of the point in the WSJ article. The more I think on their piece today, the more I go back to freedom and liberty are dangerous and don’t assure safety.

Yet, giving up freedom and liberty don’t eliminate danger or ensure safety.
