    Welps, I've gone deer hunting, but have not *shot* one yet. Light weight rifles are better to pack around. Heavy rifles that soak up recoil and are more stable are better to shoot. Split the difference and say a Winchester Model 70 or Ruger American Centerfire in .270 or .308 would be the bees knees.

    Cut n Shoot, Texas
    Took this three years ago with a 308 and a 150 grain super duper fantastic blow lungs out bullet. Shot was only 80-90 yards. This was a qaurtering shot. A 223 would have been enough gun with good bullet placement.

    I built a 257 Roberts on an 1895 Mauser action, was always my favorite. Next in line is another oldie, a Standard Arms Model M pump in 25 Remington.
