    I'm not advocating breaking the law, however, if he is legal to own in CO then who cares? Who is going to ask? There aren't border checkpoints yet. There isn't a registry. This is no different than giving a family heirloom as a gift.

    Texan2 has the right idea - give him cash, and let him purchase the gun in his home state. Everyone stays nice and legal that way, and a welcome gift is given in the proper spirit. Or, check with a firearms dealer where he lives - find out how much the gun will be - and pay for it for him to pick it up when he gets back. Same result.
