The two times I’ve shot one was with a
.30-06 to the neck at 80 yards and a .223 Hornady vmax to the chest at 15 yards. Vmax ain’t no joke!

A 223 AR pushing vmax's is my primary thermal gun. Devastating ballistics.

When it comes to game animals smaller than deer/hogs. I’ve learned DO NOT use vmax if you actually wanna eat the meat, way too destructive

Listen to fireinthewire, he’s got it figured out. Having the wind to your advantage is just a generic hunting mind set but animals that are opportunistic don’t really care if they know you’re kind of close but feel they have concealment.

That’s my two cents. Terrain is everything. Most of my experience is cougar, but I notice some similarities.

I've got to work on my approach, but I've got a persimmon tree that calls them in during the day (believe it or not, when it's dropping ripe fruit they come right in for it, about 80 yards from the house)

Spotted one today, but he saw me before I got safety off... gotta try leave the house from the opposite side, or build a stand in a big Oak tree and wait.
