Being a single item voter is a mistake. It's also a mistake to not think the a Bill Of Right issue doesn't trump all other fodder. If you can't show a back bone for a Constitutional Bill Of Right, I have no faith in you. If he signs any gun legislation that doesn't expand gun rights, I will not be voting for him.....yep I said it.

It's a joke listening about him being the biggest rights advocate.......while Ted Cruz battled these people non-stop to keep this kind of crap from happening.

Well I voted for Cruz in the Primary but he did not have the votes to win. I'm not sure how the country would have looked if he did. DT has a MO of drawing the democrat leaders in and then dropping the anvil on them so we will see how this pans out. The only way to stop future legislation is to vehemently oppose it (and even then that might not be enough). I just don't know anymore in these turbulent times. We know the GOP is worthless.

T.G.: She was also a Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee until February 28, 2016, when she resigned to endorse Senator Bernie Sanders for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.

That's all I need to know...yeah, she's a military veteran too, but being a vet or a cop isn't by any means a guarantee of Conservative values.

One of my past's (we no longer communicate) 'best bud' is an ex-cop, ex-game warden, ex-city planner is an out and out socialist.

    That was my point.

Some arbitrary military service requirement would do nothing to fix our government.

I don’t think all that many people are single issue voters. I do think there are certain issues that are constantly being pushed and become deciding factors.

The 1A is under attack but is holding its own at the federal level. If it were at as much risk as the 2A I would obviously be seen as a “2 issue voter”.

In general, I find that those who support the 2A fall fairly close to where I stand in other areas. No many pro 2A politicians out to fundamentally chance our nation.

I think that was military service required for citizenship.

Yes, but citizenship was basically voting rights and other governmental affairs.

Lack of citizenship had very little effect on living standards as evidenced by the protagonist being from an upper class non citizen family.

Of course the book is very different form the movie. Need to sit down and read it some day.

    Who will be the real choice in 2020? {Getting back to the original question.}

The choice will be between Trump and a far left liberal Democrat.

Figuring out who to vote for should be a no brainer. But some folks are challenged in that respect. And as my grandfather used to say, "always going to be some folks who cut off their nose to spite their face."

Without military service, in the book, one could not vote or hold public office. Also you couldn't vote till you served your time in the military.

They took everyone into the service. Even if you spent your term of office counting buttons.

Instead of a free pony, how about free guns for low-income honorable-discharged veterans?

    Would Vermin grab our guns?
The Yankee Marshal has a program called the TYMPP the yankee Marshall pistol project that covers this on a very small scale.

There is no choice in my book vote Republican or we lose the country to people who will ban everything and make the country a third world hell. I like the country under Trump nobody liked the country under obummer. . So multiply obummer times two and that is what you will get if democraps win.

The problem I have: is when this narrative of background checks is being pushed. At least these last two shooters obtain their guns legally. It just props up the left wing false narratives.

I can't be a part of watering that slippery slope. Now Cruz is suggesting that we strengthen background checks, so some of this doesn't slip through IE Southerland Springs shooter with Military charges. Which I think is fine, because it failed us at that point.

So, since we all know that this will happen again, and that how background checks are currently being done, had nothing to do with these last two shootings; where will you draw the line? Magazine capacity? Semi Autos? Where is your threshold?

I'm just curious, because if we're gonna pass laws based on falsehoods and most will accept that, I just wonder when people will say, "okay it's too late but now we're mad"!
It's harder to get them back after they're passed, there won't be a sunset this time, you can bet on it.
Or we can just say, well the other side is worse, at least Trump is lubing it up first for us......damn.

I know this is preaching to the choir, just a little frustration at the angle.

All of these shooters obtain their guns legally.
Define "All of these shooters", cause I don't believe that is a correct statement. Did the Columbine shooters obtain their guns legally? And did the Sandy Hook shooter? Unless I am mistaken, I don't believe either did.

If he meant that none of the currently proposed fixes would have stopped these incidents, then I believe he is probably correct.
