Fort Wolters Club, Mineral Wells Rifle Matches

We're looking for new shooters to attend matches at the Fort Wolters range in Mineral Wells. Contrary to some rumors, we are still an active club and we conduct both regular NRA High Power matches and Mid-Range prone matches each month. Caliber is restricted to .223 Remington (thanks to the Army).

The next across the course NRA High Power match is on May 23. First shot downrange is at 9:00 so you need to be at the range by 8:30 to sign in and help get targets ready to go in the pits. This match is open to any Service Rifle in .223 Remington as well as NRA Match Rifles and just about any AR out there in .223. This match is shot at 200, 300, and 500 yards. 80 rounds for record plus sighters.

The next Mid-Range prone match is May 30. This match is open to any F-Class, Service Rifle or Match rifle in .223 Remington. This match is shot at 300 and 500 yards. 50 rounds for record plus sighters. First shot downrange is at 9:30 so you should try and be there around 9:00 to sign in.

You can check out the club at www.fwssc.com or you can PM me with any questions. We'd really like to get our attendance up. The last MR prone match had 16 shooters. The last NRA match only had 5 shooters show up.

Unfortunately as I posted earlier, we have been restricted to .223 Remington. We also lost our 600 and 1,000 yard firing points due to some new restrictions on the impact area. At least we are able to shoot out to 500 yards for both types of matches.

We had a pretty good turn-out last Sunday for the across-the-course match considering the Texas High Power State match was going on at Camp Swift, down by Bastrop/Elgin. This Sunday (May 30) coming up is the Mid-range prone match. It's open to any .223 chambered rifle, scoped, etc. or you can shoot a Service AR or match rifle.
The next across-the-course match for match/service rifles is June 20. June's Mid-range prone match is June 19.
If you plan on attending the Mid-range prone match, try and get to the range between 9:00 and 9:30 to sign up. You'll need 56 rounds total of .223. The first stage is fired from 300 yards and the final two stages are fired from 500 yards. Hearing protection is mandatory and you should bring a shooting mat or piece of carpet to lay on. A spotting scope helps but if you don't have one, you can always borrow one from one the other shooters.
Visitors are welcome to come and watch; just check in with the match director and let him know you're there to observe.

Good turnout for today's Midrange match: 20 shooters, 4 of which were new Juniors. It was HOT with very little wind. We got started at about 10 o'clock and finished up at about 2:30. The next Midrange match is June 19 and the next Across the Course match is June 20. Hope to see some of you there, even if it's just to watch.
