Gun accident hurts officer at Police Academy

A Houston officer was cleaning a service weapon when it went off at the HPD Academy on Tuesday, injuring the officer, KTRK-Channel 13 says.
The unidentified officer was reportedly hit at the firing range at about 3:40 p.m. KTRK says there was a round left in the gun as it was being cleaned.
The bullet hit the floor. A fragment of the bullet ricocheted, hitting the officer above an eyebrow. The wound was treated at the scene.
The Academy is located on Aldine Westfield in northeast Houston.

ALWAYS KNOW THE STATUS OF YOUR GUN AT ALL TIMES!

Pretty damn simple. I'm constantly changing my class curriculum but, for the time being this serves as the fifth safety rule in my safety briefings, and the rule that fully encompasses all the others. It amazes me how many people roll the dice with guns when a simple damn mag check and chamber check completely eliminates these things from happening.

At least in Houston they just get hurt, humiliated and embarrassed.

Here in Bexar County, the ND's inevitably lead to a dirt nap for eternity.
