These parts came off a RRA Elite Operator II. The site says mid length gas system. The handguard would be too long for a carbine length system but could fit a rifle system. It would look a little odd though.

And if I had something to put it on it would be gone.

I'm not sure I understand what the confusion is. The hand guard is 10" long, period.

Do I need to measure the gas tube this evening?

No. It is about where the front sight base will sit in relation to the handguard. This depends on where the gas port is on the barrel.

With a midlength barrel gas port the setup will fit just like yours did from the factory. With a rifle length setup the front sight will sit out more toward the muzzle away from the handguard. If you had a carbine length port the handguard would have to be notched to push the gas block/ front sight closer to the back.

With a free floated handguard like this you have some freedom to use different length barrel ports. It just may look funny though. The guard doesn't have to lock into the front sight base like a non-floated handguard.
