Not sure why you would visit a country, or attend an event at which another country is hosted by our country, and insult their flag. It is appropriate to render honors.

Not when it isn't your country...

Same reason I wouldn't bow to the Queen or stand for Mexico's or Canada's anthem. I stand for my nation's flag alone. I don't expect and don't think a foreign national should be expected to "render honors" to a flag or symbol of another country, but you go right ahead...
