Hey, those ideas work. No joke, when I was 19 me and two friends went on a long road trip in my beat up old 69 C-10 pickup. On the way back, right around Mt. Vernon, the engine died and we coasted to the side of the road. Popped the hood and found the bolt for the alternator bracket had sheared off in the head. After lot's of head scratching we took my buddies leather belt and ran it through the alternator bracket and the washer bottle bracket. I then cut new holes for the buckle and latched it tight. We made it all the way back to Fort Worth, lol. I'll never forget that.:green: Sometimes you got to do what you got to do.

Oops, my quote didn't take, I was referring to the rigged up contraptions a few pages back.

Had a Pinto (yeah, I know better now) that, when driving through Waco, just died, and we coasted to the roadside. It would not restart. Popped the hood, and saw a wire bundle that went from one side of the engine compartment, around the firewall, and to something that looked like a solenoid on the passenger side wheel well had fried - melted the insulation and melted through the wrap around the bundle of wires, also melting the specific wire going to that solenoid.

I had just enough spare wire in the trunk to go across the air cleaner, patching together several strands to reconnect the 2 ends. But nothing to insulate the twisted joints. Got some masking tape from a nearby gas station, and wrapped with that. Engine cranked up, and we made it to our destination and back home. Once home I got a length of good wire, and replaced the connections, retraced the original path, and taped the bundle back together. It lasted until we sold the car several years later. Not a clue what was wrong, or why it never happened again...
