Absolutely true. I hadn't thought of that entire sub-genre of "mainstream" acting. Of course, I can remember lots of times people got that work because they knew the right people and were willing to take off their clothes. Whenever naked girls have been needed for background set dressing in movies or videos, porn girls have always been available and widely used. Sometimes they even get a line to speak. Is that "mainstream"? I guess it is, especially since everyone remembers how Marilyn Monroe used to talk openly about the need to have sex with various powerful men in order to get roles. Still, I know very few porn girls with SAG cards.

All of which sort of puts me in mind of the times I've listened to a limited-release, small-run LP from some major record company and thought "That has got to be the drug dealer for someone at the record label!"

Oh, there have been lots of those. Traci Lords is probably the biggest name for someone my age. Younger folks will bring up Sasha Grey; her continuing role on Entourage was a breakthrough. But I was commenting on the fact that it's very, very rare for someone to go back and forth between the two. Porn actresses who break through in mainstream productions traditionally do not go back to porn.

I think it'll be more common in the future, though. Porn has been mainstreamed. We have Disney actresses and Olympic medal winners posting underage nudes and no one seems shocked. Coming at the question from the other direction, within the last week I saw...errr...accidentally clicked on (Yeah, that's my story...) one of those "casting" porn videos where the girl, in the warm-up interview, cheerfully proclaimed to the producer "Oh, I've been watching your porn since I was 8 years old!" Before he took his big fall with allegations of being too aggressive towards his co-stars and others, porn actor James Deen was famous for having a core fan base of girls in the ~12-15 age bracket. With that sort of background and attitude, I think a new generation is growing up in America that will see very little difference between porn stars and plain old movie/TV stars. Heck, in Europe there are plenty of actresses for Private who are household names; Private basically mainstreamed porn in Europe over 30 years ago.

Maitland Ward may be the first to flip between the two while being openly and widely covered by mainstream mass media in the U.S. but I doubt she'll be the last.

I hated picking blueberries. My grandparents took me to pick them a number of times. I didn't eat blueberries for decades after that. They'd pick several bushels of them and then they'd be canned, frozen and jellied. I was so sick of blueberries.

As God as my witness, one summer my Aunt and Uncle took me with them to a drive in movie in Shreveport. They parked their VW Micro Bus sideways taking 2 parking spaces. They opened the side doors, took out their lawn chairs and proceeded to shell peas while watching the flick. A huge pile of shell was left on the ground. My Uncle said "it's ok Steve you probably will never see any of these people again." I don't recall ever going back to Shreveport.,
