    Probably a lot of truth to that. I work with many from India that are here in the US and it's very common to hear the beep in the background while on conference calls. I know one guy whose detector has been beeping for at least 2 or 3 years.
    Too stupid to fix or replace? Ours would beep when connected to the house alarm because we didn't have a landline. It was a signal alerting in case someone cut the phone line.

    Ours would beep when connected to the house alarm because we didn't have a landline.
    Last house we lived in all the smoke detectors were connected together through the alarm service. When the battery went dead in one, it caused all of them to start to beep. Yeah every single smoke detector got disconnected and they lived in a pile in my closet the 5 years or so we lived there...
