They wouldn't let her or me dry fire the rifle in Academy yesterday. I tried on the vanguard and two other rifles. Add this to their "you must be 21 or older to purchase a "tactical" weapon. (ie an ar 15, HD shotgun ext..) and they are starting to loose my bittiness to somewhere else after these next two rifles get purchased.

Ok so what's the kick on the .270 like? In relation to a 30.06 because I know how that kicks...

The only experience on the 30.06 I have is from a pump action with little to no pad. It hit fairly hard. I would not let my wife shoot that one. But, I recently shot a .308 and now the .270 with both having a recoil pad and both were no biggie. The .308 was a Mossberg ATR combo, shot nicely but the scope needs to be replaced. I feel the Marlin is a better rifle for the price, but that's just my opinion. I heard of a story of a boy shooting a Marlin 30.06 with MR ammo and killed 3 deer so far, but it's a story I heard...
With properly being taught on how to hold the rifle, you should have no issue if it has a good recoil pad. Remember, you can always replace the pad... Not sure how tall you are, but if you are short might need to look at a youth model.
If you guys are ever in Houston, you are more than welcome to meet me at a range and test fire.

To add to high-cap, if academy had the Marlin in a 25.06, I'd most likely gone with that. The only advantage I see with the .270 over a 25.06 is the ammo selection if you don't reload. Which I don't, but my wife's uncle does.

I'm 5'5" which is pretty short lol.

I really wish I could shoot all these guns before I bought them so I would know if I liked them or not lol... Ok so on my next trip to wherever, I plan on looking at pretty much everything. I don't like looking at guns though because when I go the people start talking to Big about things and not me because I'm a girl... pisses me off. I sorta, kind of, a little bit, know what I want.
TALK TO ME DAMN IT! ok, i'll let yall know what happens....

    Academy has the savage 111 which has the accu trigger(its sweet!!!) for $385.88. In calibers 243 25.06 270 308 30.06 and 7mm

One of the two factors why Im going with this rifle is the accu trigger which means the trigger pull can be adjusted without a gunsmith. The second reason is what I call the "walmart" factor. What I mean by that is what ammo
can I get at a common store like walmart if I need it badly?? The common rounds would be 243,30-30,270,30.06.
