My faithful Onkyo reciever finally took a sh!t on me 3 days before Top Gun Maverick shows up at the door.

I prefer a clean clinical crisp sound. Onkyo was awesome but I guess the quality has dropped and have decided to try a new brand. I'm looking at Denons and Yamahas at Best Buy.

Currently run Klipsch speakers all around with the 8 inch towers, 450c, and 10 inch sub and rears. The house also has some dormant speakers in the ceiling that a 7.2 could use.

    What would ya'll get?

I doubt you could go wrong with Yamaha or Denon.
If you like a clean sound, you might want to go slow adding those "dormant" speakers in. At least in 7.2 terms. Maybe in an A/B mode for mood music, but I would be surprised if their dynamics would fit in to a combined setup.
    Thinking imaging here...

Found the Denon s760h for $125 less than Best Buy on Amazon, so it won out. It will also do 5.1.2 instead of just 7.1 so my ceiling speakers will image properly. As long as it has enough ass in the amp, I should be fine.

I believe you chose wisely Have you considered some full range speakers like Fostex for the dormant units, they push a lot sound with a very low draw.

Thanks. Just found old specs on the old reciever and new one is 5 more watts per channel so I should be good.
I'm set on my fronts center and sub.

I'm running Klipsh r820f towers, klipsch 450c center and klipsch sub. The rear speakers are some Klipsch bookshelves that are a little underwhelming compared to the massive fronts.

I'll check out the Fostex for some rears.

Darn good set up as is. Folded horn design for the rear with Klipsch or Fostex full range drivers is about all that can keep up with the rest.
