I've bought from on-line sellers but only from "specialized" sellers (Shooter's Connection for STIs, Tactical Innovations for my Rebel..) but now my buddy is looking to buy a "normal" pistol....so my question is, experiences with sellers and auctions

I've not heard "bad" about Bud's - have heard "bad" about Texas Gun Trader

what are your experiences, with whom, that I can pass along ?

I can recommend The Sportsman's Outdoor Super Store. They have great prices, free shipping, and fast service. Also, no surcharge for using a CC. I ordered on Monday night and the pistol was at my LGS on Friday. That was during the week of Christmas. My Son has used Bud's and was happy with them too.

My first internet purchase was from Centerfireguns. Overall, it was not a bad experience. They are probably not the cheapest, and their shipping was a bit slower. What I liked about them was that they contacted the FFL I chose. I did not have to go to the LGS and ask them to fax their license, which can be a problem sometimes.

Texas Gun Trader is hit or miss. I have had good luck there buying and selling but you must be careful. Scammers abound for sure.

If it seems too good to be true it probably is.

no issues with Bud's. I have used them several times and their layaway once. pretty much my go to source for new weapons.

Tombstone Tactical was real good. My FFL took a month long vacation and I had to scramble to get a new one. They were great dealing with the drama.

Rainier Arms is fantastic. I have three of their excellent weapons.

Texas Gun Trader is what it is, individuals selling to individuals. I have scored many good deals and have yet to be disappointed. There are some on there I wouldn't even think about due to high prices or just bad tone. Key phrases that exclude my consideration; "no lowballers" "I know what this is worth" "what you got" "trade only" "putting out feelers"

I've used Bud's numerous times over the years and never had an issue.

Classic Arms is another good vendor, however they are more of a specialty vendor (AK, surplus, etc) Classic Firearms - Military Surplus Guns and Rifles, Saiga Firearms, Classic Guns, Surplus Ammo, and more!

Copes Distributing. Cope's Distributing
They have a lot of guns, including pistols, that I was shocked to see once I started digging thru their site. In the past I've used them for everything but firearms, however they are one of my go to sources for guns now. As a matter of fact I have a rifle on it's way as I type this.
They are also a forum sponsor.

Palmetto State Armory has been good to me as well. Ammunition, Magazines, Rifle Parts, Bulk Ammo and Rifle Accessories - Palmetto State Armory
They have their detractors, but usually it involves people not bothering to read their stated shipping times on the website.





TX Gun Trader is fine as long as it's face to face.
I would be hesitant to send money to anyone except for people on our forum and some rated sellers on Gunbroker. Even with the good rating there, I don't think I would be sending too much to an individual in most cases and try to stick with commercial members.


There are tons of other great vendors I've had friends use for years without a complaint, but I can't say anything other then that, as I've not used any of them myself. I'm sure others will cover them here.

Bud's doesn't offer credit anymore. I've used it in the past and it's work out for me very well.

I've bought from Bud's,Sportsman Outdoor Superstore,Classic, J&G, Palmetto State Armory, K-VAR and Kentucky gun Co. I don't buy from Texas shops due to state taxes. I'd say Sportsman Outdoor would be best value due to no cc fee and free shipping. The thing about Buds I like is their selection along with their layaway option. I've bought from these two stores more than 10 times combined and have had no issues and great customer service. The others I've used once maybe twice at the most without any problems either.

they took folks money for 40rd pmags and didnt deliver.

Bud's doesn't offer credit anymore. I've used it in the past and it's work out for me very well.

The only reason I say that is because their card's interest rate was insanely high.

Small, specialist forums dedicated to particular shooting sports can be absolutely great. I've spent a great deal of money with people I've never met nor followed online, with no reputation, simply because I figure if they found their way to such an obscure little place and are selling something that is particular to that sport, they're probably OK. So far, I haven't been disappointed. I've knowingly overpaid when I really wanted something but I haven't been deceived or ripped off.
