I just hit Wal Mart for ammo and they had 100 round boxes of Winchester .45 Auto for $36.95 as well as 100 round boxes of 9mm for $20.95. This is the Wal Mart in Pflugervill.

I'd call that an average deal on the 45. I believe that's the price I saw about 2 weeks ago in Huntsville. Last Sept. it was $1 lower.

Ah, now that makes more better sense.

Guess if you want them to keep it in stock, you're gonna have to do alot more shooting

I shoot 9mm and .45 in centerfire, and seldom find much at the three Walmarts near me. Academy is where I've bought most of my name brand new stuff. That's also where I buy Blazer .22 bricks.

Freedom Munitions new .45acp is .31 1/2 per round plus shipping. Their blaster range ammo (factory reloads) is .28 1/2. I've shot about 300 of their 9mm and 250 of their .45 with no problems. If you're looking for range ammo, and don't mind shooting factory reloads, this might be an option for you.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to see if my local WM has that deal on the 9mm.

Great tip, thanks. I'll definitely look into it.

The academy in round rock had 500 rounds of umc .45 fmj for 189.99 a couple weeks ago, may want to check that out too.

I picked up 300rds. of Speer Lawman 115gr. 9mm this morning at Academy for $77.94 + tax. I got the last six boxes on the shelf. I don't know if that's all they put out of if that's all they had left, hard to judge. lol

500, Really? I've bought a ton of 45 UMC from Houston, Conroe, & Huntsville Academy's and the largest box I've seen is 250rd.

All ammo is running high right now, even higher than when the supply dried up after Obama got the Democrat nomination for President.

In early '08, Wal Mart sold Blazer Brass .45 Auto 230 grain FMJ for 9.97 a box.

Now, they no longer carry it, but Academy has it for about $21 a box plus tax.

Academy and Wal Mart no longer have bulk pack Federal 5.56 mm 62 grain FMJ packed in GI ammo cans on their shelves (It jumped from $149 per 420 rounds to $179 in just a matter of months).

When .223 & 5.56 mm ammo dries up, I switch to .22 LR and spend my time on the range with no worries.

I just came from the Baytown Walmart where I checked out the ammo. They just got in a case of Winchester .45 acp HP ammo that I wasn't familiar with. It was $25 for 50 rounds. That's 50 cents per round! The usual stuff was out of stock. Their employees said when they try to order additional stock, the order is kicked out.

In contrast, Academy in Baytown has plenty of ammo! They were out of Monarch 9mm 115 FMJ but had virtually everything else. They are beginning to carry Russian Spam cans of 7.62X54R, 9mm steel case and 7.62X39 ammo. They have moved the ammo from the area behind the counter and it's all out in the shelves where customers can actually see what is in stock! It's like a whole wall of ammo! I talked to the store Manager and the ammo Manager and they both predicted good stocks of ammo in the near future.

Academy seems committed to serving customer needs. By moving the ammo out of the counter area, they now have (my guess) twice as much ammo in stock and available. That "wall" of ammo was a sweet sight!

Saw the same here in SA. When I asked a clerk why they moved the pistol ammo to the shot gun and rifle ammo racks, he said that gun sales were so brisk, they did not want customers to have to wait at the gun counter for handgun ammo.
