    Gunz are icky.
Last week I took my 2019 Toyota Highlander into the stealership for service. I've owned the vehicle for about 2.5yrs. Bought it new.
Wasn't in the waiting area 10 minutes when the first salesman walked up wanting to buy my vehicle.
    I politely declined.
Another 10 minutes pass salesman #2 is hitting me up to sell. I told him I would swap him dead even for a new 4Runner.
    He walked off.
Another five minutes go by. ANOTHER sales worm starts on me. I told him if another of you guys ask the price just went to 120K.
    He left.
Since I've been back I have received SIX emails from all kinds of Toyota sales people wanting to buy my vehicle. God Dang.
Is it really THAT bad out there?
No I don't want to sell. I bought the thing because I needed a new vehicle. It's almost paid off. NO I do not want another four years of paying a car note.

Are you folks getting pestered to sell your vehicles?

For the first 5/6 years I was constantly asked to sell my truck back to the dealership I bought if from...it was mildly annoying.

The latest is some unknown real estate entity wanting to buy my house, sight unseen, as is, for top dollar...

No, I'll be keeping my truck and house...sheesh, go away.

Demand is still strong, and supply is extremely tight.

We still haven’t turned the corner on the chip shortage, and we won’t for quite some time.

A few weeks ago I went to go look at the new Nissan Frontiers (they look like Tacomas now) Nobody asked me if I wanted to check one out and take it for a spin, but they did ask twice if I wanted to sell my old 2015 frontier which is paid off. I declined both times. The second guy said they'd pay more than it's worth. I told him so would someone in a private sale. He looked PO'd and left me alone. So two salesmen didn't want to sell me a new truck, but wanted to buy my old one. Do they get commission for trade ins now?

I've been pestered non-stop the past year to sell the dealership my Edge back. Screw you guys, I'm not paying more to replace it with something I don't want.

Things are such now that we are trying to baby my wife's Expedition because we don't know when we are replacing it now.

Yes. The broken supply chain has flipped the script - many USED cars are selling for higher than the fleet of new ones. Its starting to die down a bit - or at least the prices are coming down on what dealers will pay for a used car - but a few months ago, they would pay *above* high KBB retail just to get it, because they'll mark it up 5-10k or more, and sell it inside a week.

My dad's neighbor has a newer GMC Sierra 1500 that he has paid off. He got it from his buddy's dealership. They kept calling and asking if he'd sell it back or trade it on a new one. He of course, declined. His buddy at the dealership had a 2500HD that he sold back to his bosses for more than he paid for it, a lot more.

A lot of cars are not being completed due to the lack of chips and computer equipment stuck on the ships off the California coast. They're sitting, waiting. The inventory of new cars is going to shrink and lot of "new" dealerships are going to be relying on used car sales.

Biden's America. Don't look not to be hassled to sell going away any time soon, unfortunately.

My wife's been trying to buy a new car and the original salesman she bought her last one from is trying to avoid her...who'd thunk it?

Can dealerships survive on service/maintenance without selling any new vehicles?

Doubtful. I would anticipate a shrinking of the dealerships if things don't turn around. IF they can get the used inventory, they can probably make it - and probably why they're so ravenous about buying cars off customers. Car salesman almost all work on commission too - if they don't have anything to sell, they're not making money.

All of my Toyota’s go to the dealership for service. The staff at autonation know to not even talk to me. If I need something outside of what my service advisor can offer ( Jared Jones, stand up guy, Marine, and absolutely trustworthy) I will summon one of their sales monkeys.

Put out bids and Carmax offered the most for the wife's 6yo SUV. It MSRPd 30k 6 years ago and I got 22k for it which is crazy considering it's value was 13k a year ago. Stealership was willing to give 17k for it. Anyway, they kept wanting to buy my Jeep which also has a crazy value. I told them if they'd pay 2022 sticker price then it's theirs!

Bought the wife a new SUV and paid sticker since nothing is on the lot. We just happened to find what she wanted being unloaded off the truck and it was one of the few that wasn't pre-ordered. I knew I'd be paying sticker but no big deal since her old SUV gave us an extra 9k compared to a year ago. We'd planned on swapping hers in a year but (1) don't know if anything will be on the lot by then and (2) the crazy used car values are going to plunge at some point. Somebody will probably pay 27-28k for her 6yo SUV and in 1 or 2 years when inventory comes back it will be worth 7-8k.

What we’re seeing are viable businesses scrambling to find inventory to sell.

And yes, folks at many dealerships are getting spiffs for finding used cars to sell.

Yup. 2019 Mazda CX9 Grand Touring bought new in Oct 2019. Took it in for a warranty claim over the summer and now getting emails from the dealer I purchased from as well as mail offers to buy it for what I paid for it from other dealers. It was a replacement for wifes Camry which is relegated now as a backup vehicle for airport duty and general situations where a smaller and more “I don’t care as much about it” car is preferred. If it didn’t have so many miles on it, I’d seriously consider selling the Mazda back.

They called every other day to buy mine and had for almost 6 months. I own my corolla outright and finally I told the lady I'd sell it to them for 150 thousand dollars that was my final offer and if they called back again this is recorded and I will sue them for harrassment. They havent called since (that dealership)
