It's down because the liberal minded media isn't hammering it down every night with dinner like they were back when Bush was in office. As soon as Obama took over, the media suddenly turned off the "economy is in the trashcan" rhetoric even though the economy has shown zero major uptick.

The media was a MAJOR contributor to the loss of consumer confidence in the past few years, but of course you can't blame the media for anything.
