Got my renewal LTC (NOT CHL)

Is 6 months a little bit 'overkill' for a renewal notice?

Should I wait a few months or just renew now?
I don't remember even my DRIVER's lic getting a notice this far in advance.

My car tags usually come with only a few months advance notice.

Does DPS really need 6 months to 'check-me-out'?

Renew as soon as you can. You will get your new plastic in 2-3 weeks. The new expiration date will be five years from the current expiration date. Why wait?

You will receive a reminder letter from DPS just inside 6 months to expiration. At that time your DPS account will be activated to do your renewal, but not before.

I actually LIKE the early notice - this way if there IS a delay there's plenty of time to sort it out before expiration.

The state gets their money faster. Cash flow is essential. Can't think of any other reason they notify so far ahead.

It's cash flow. That's why places take credit cards even though they lose a % or so. In the long run money in hand now is better than possible money later. I assume that's it. I got notice for my drivers license renewal 6 months before my birthday.

Guys, y'all are reading WAY too much into this. People procrastinate - by sending notices out earlier, they're hoping more will renew BEFORE the day/week/month that it's due. Plus, with most of the offices now doing that PITA "appointment" system, it's slowing things down, I think.
