These campaigns tend to take an incremental approach to changing behavior.
I remember when they started encouraging seatbelts for the drivers in the front seat, then it added kids in the back seat, then everyone in the car.
Anti DWI campaigns used to be against Drunk Driving, then Buzzed Driving, now it’s a neoprohibitionist campaign against any alcohol before driving.
This will probably be the same. It’ll start by encouraging people to lock their guns up, then keep them unloaded, then keep the ammo in a separate safe like other countries require.
Hell, I agree with the NRA on this one. ( probably for different reasons)
Why should taxpayer money go to this? There is already a law requiring visible signage in all places where guns are sold to inform people of safe storage and not making firearms accessible to children.
There should be a test. Gun salesman says look in here as he points to the muzzle. If the customer point gun at their head attempting to look inside he slaps them silly and says your too stupid to buy a gun GTFO.
This whole thing reeks. The bill which would have given this budget item the force of law was HB 316. Alice Tripp, TSRA, was one of several folks testifying against the bill but bragged about the $1,000,000 in funding in a recent email newsletter like it was a great victory. The spin the establishment is trying to put on this session is ridiculous.
That's what happens when they piggy back other small bills into a $250 billion dollar budget bill. The bigger items are going to get the approval, so why not add another not so noticeable one.
