Raccoons are unbelievably tough. They can easily kill most dogs, and if one drags a dog into water, the dog's gone for sure.

Don't want to get my wife riled up about hurting raccoons. For the past 18 years she has, and still is, feeding several different types of birds, 2 opossums, 3 stray cats, up to 14 raccoons and 1 mouse. She even makes the raccoons toast with butter and jelly. Plus they get our left over food, cookies and dog food. They come over around 7 PM and stop around 11 PM. Luckily, they have all been here at the same time only a very few times.
