Starting small inside. A couple weeks into indoor hydroponics. I only had a 40% success rate on my first round.

When it is up and running i should have a fresh salad and herb garden. I also plan on peppers and berries on the side.

I'm slowly gathering up cinder blocks for raised beds. I need a way to measure the amount of sunlight an area gets though. As I want to build the beds permanently

Is this in your yard? I wouldn’t worry about too much unless the bed is in perpetual shade. If you get 5-6 hours of direct sunlight, you’ll be fine. Some shade and indirect light is good, especially in summer. Morning light is best. If your shaded by mid afternoon, even better.

Another easy way to tell how much sunlight the spot is getting is to look at what grass is growing there now. If it’s Bermuda or a variant, it’s got lots of light…

If a shade tolerant grass, probably not getting the full afternoon sun

Little update. Some of the lettuce is actually growing. This is first go around. Some stuff didn't sprout at all. Some did ok then I killed it making changes.

I have a couple chili peppers that just sprouted. They will be going in soon.

Here is another picture of indoor hydroponics. Some of them are still alive. I killed a couple more changing things up again. A couple are really doing well.

Here is a shot of the different light setups. One is (8) 4 foot T5 led. The other floor is a pair of viparspectra LED panels.

The viparspectra panels are so bright at 100% that you should wear glasses or turn them down. They are full spectrum and include the blues and IR.

Built from 95% reclaimed materials....paid only for the roofing [HD clear reinforced polycarbonate to withstand a light hail just in case]. Only complaint is it's hard to keep cool in summer.

You should cover the roof with reflective shade cloth during warm months. This will help a lot:

I’d just bungee cord it on with a strap or two. Should last a few summers if put away clean.
