I really wish ballistol did not have the smell it has. From what I understand they specifically add the smell to it as part of the process they use to make it. I deal with it but it would be great if it did not smell at all.

I bought a bottle of it and tried it once. The smell to me is terrible. I'd rather have an IV or Hoppe's 9 on a drip line into my veins rather than use Ballistol.

I use Slip 2000 cleaner, oil, and grease. Seems better than Frog Snot to me.

I triple zip lock bagged a 1lb bag of pool shock for water purification and tossed it in my BOB.
Months later I realized that it caused the metal things in my BOB to rust - just another hard-earned lesson among many.

I'm cleaning out my Russian oil bottles that had Hoppe's 9 and replacing it with Birchwood Casey Bore Scrubber, it doesn't smell bad/strong

I have been using it inside to clean my firearms with no problems

My question ... do I have to do a complete clean out or can I mix the new with the Hoppe's residue

Acetone will work well, and dries quick. A gallon at the local hardware store is cheaper than brake cleaner in similar quantities
