I like the "swing out" rack idea, as long as inertia doesn't take over and cause guns to fly everywhere.

It's a decent starter "storage unit".
Especially if you have children around.

My AMSEC electronic lock has lasted twice as long (so far) as the 2 mechanical dials prior to it.

And I can get into it 3-5x faster.

I swapped out my mechanical lock for an electronic 10 years ago and couldn't be happier.

The mechanical dial was very touchy and I am sure I could never get into it in a stressful situation.

How long for each of the 3?

Less than a year on my first one because it was replaced under warranty. The second was maybe 2 years. After finally getting it open after almost 30 minutes of trying to get it open I left it unlocked and called a locksmith and had it replaced with the AMSEC electronic. 7 years later it's still works perfectly. I just replaced the batteries for the first time 3-4 months ago.

What happened to the 2 mechanical dails?

They just got to where it would not open on the numbers. I would have to go +/- on one on the numbers to get it to open.

You had 2 mechanical dial locks fail in less than 3 years?

    Yep, see above.

Stay away from electronic locks. Also, Cabela's has a similar ProVault by Liberty (dial lock) on sale this week for $399

I have the Pro Vault 24 with dial lock. Awesome starter safe and you definitely get a crap ton of safe for the price

If you get one that says it has a lifetime warranty, check first to see that it really means "lifetime"! I bought a Cannon 20+ years ago and it did fine until about five years ago and it decided it just would not open. Got my paperwork out and got in touch with Cannon. He said I'd have to pay for a locksmith to come out, Nope, I said, I'm reading here from your literature that says .............. "anything" that goes wrong will be covered by our magnificent warranty. Argued for a while then decided to give up on this clown. A friend and I finally got it open. Cleaned up the dial works (since it was now open) and tried it several times and it has worked every time since then. Beware of Cannon's non-existent lifetime warranty.

I haven't changed the batteries in mine yet.
Been so long, I ain't sure how old it is.
    Over 7 years for sure.
    It worked fine yesterday.
I know where the backup key is.

I ain't too worried about having an electronic keypad .
