TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Registered sex offenders in Miller County
have to report to the Bi-State Justice Building in Texarkana for a
mandatory counseling session on Halloween night.

The session will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The counseling has taken place the past five years for
registered sex offenders from Bowie and Red River counties in
Texas. Miller County is taking part this year.

Officials say the event is designed to ensure the convicted
predators are not mingling with children who are trick-or-treating.

Offenders who don't show for the session face penalties.

If they are a threat to society, why are they running around in society?

Ok I was going with legal options first, throw that out and I agree they should have already been dealt with in a more proper fashion and not on a registry of sorts

It's classic government policy. They're unwilling to fix the problem, but more than willing to go out of their way to make everyone "feel" safe. :mad0071:

I would like to point out that people in the sex offender registry range from people who have actually sexually assaulted a child to those who were simply publicly urinating or a teen who had consensual sex with his teen girlfriend. I know people from the latter two categories, it's not uncommon. The sex offender registry is broken and needs to have better-designed categories for description of the level of threat.
I do, however, agree with having the serious offenders (like the first category I mentioned) attend this session...or perhaps disappearing altogether. ;)
