Hawaii county made a small step to improved permitting process due to SCOTUS Bruen ruling.

    As the blog author states,
"While I disagree with just about every part of that [permitting process], I think most of it would survive legal scrutiny. However, not all of it should. In particular, the mental health form."

For such a blue/leftist state and a nice place to visit I am glad there is some improvement. The author continues,
"It’s also why there’s never any compromise with anti-gunners." Fight on.

If Hawaii is shall issue, then it's not a small step, it's an enormous leap forward.

I don't know if Hawaii will prove to be shall-issue in practice, this remains to be seen, but George Young's lawsuit just a few years ago showed that in 2018 and 2019, not a single private citizen in Hawaii was granted an open or “concealed carry” permit. Going from zero to shall-issue is about as big a shift as can be.

The Hawaii police website goes to great pains to say how objective their criteria is and how they won't be capricious or arbitrary in the application of their criteria. Again, time will tell, but if true, it's a sea-change.

    From the Bearing Arm blog;
Honolulu police chief Joe Logan reports that 38 concealed carry licenses have now been issued, but there’s a backlog of more than 800 applications still outstanding..At the current rate, it would take more than five years for the department to get through the 800 applications that are pending, and any other resident who submits their application could face even longer delays....I can’t help but wonder if the department is taking its sweet time in approving permits while the state legislature is working on a bill that would turn many publicly-accessible places into “gun-free zones.” .

SCOTUS has already bitch-slapped NY and NJ when they tried to declare basically everywhere a “gun free zone”.

Hawaii's political strategy like NY, NY, WA, WI, IL and others is to pass anti-2A laws which will be challenged in courts. Fight them in court on taxpayer dime as long as possible, lose, rinse and repeat for years.

Make it cost enough only the richest leftist will have guns. From the Bearing Arms blog.

Owning a firearm in Hawaii is about to get more expensive, raising concerns for financially insecure individuals.

Recently, state legislators proposed a bill that, if passed, would increase the costs associated with obtaining and carrying a firearm for self-defense. The bill introduces several provisions that significantly impact the financial costs of owning and carrying firearms in Hawaii. One such provision is the implementation of fees for each permit application, which currently stands at $47.50. Additionally, the bill calls for repetitive training and increased fees for applications related to carrying concealed weapons (CCW).

For individuals seeking to acquire and carry firearms for the first time, the financial burden is substantial, with the estimated total cost exceeding $1000, encompassing various mandatory requirements. […]

Hawaii like so many other blue states is continuing to fight against last year's Bruen decision and in general 2A. Here are some stories of other actions the state is taking in the way of civilian disarmament.

"...the Second Amendment Law Center, joined by several prominent pro 2A groups including Gun Owners of America, the Hawaii Rifle Association, California Rifle & Pistol Association, Gun Owners of California, and Gun Owners Foundation filed an amicus (friend of the court) brief in US District Court in Hawaii in the case of Wolford v. Lopez. That case challenges Hawaii’s newly signed SB 1230. The new law makes a license to carry a firearm invalid almost everywhere."

"...National Shooting Sports Foundation filed a lawsuit challenging Hawaii’s recently-enacted public nuisance law, which – unless it is enjoined – will allow almost anyone to file frivolous lawsuits against members of the firearm industry for the misuse of firearms by criminals. That law is designed to bankrupt gun retailers and evade the judgment of the U.S. Supreme Court as well as laws enacted by Congress that prohibit such private lawsuits."

:clown:;):police: No, they aren't so bad.

Murder, She Wrote: Cabot Cove, the fictional home town of Jessica Fletcher played by Angela Lansbury has a murder rate of 149 for every 100,000. [1980s TV show. Maybe before your time. SHE who cashes my retirement check was a BIG fan.]

There were a total [actual] of 41 murders in Hawaii in 2020, or 2.9 for every 100,000 people — the seventh lowest murder rate among states.

    Here are more
murder per capita rates from 1979-2018.

Yes, but in Cabot Cove, you only have to worry about eating poison cobbler, getting bludgeoned with the ornate, candlestick, or being smothered with Aunt Mabel’s brocade pillow. Whereas in Hawaii, every hoodlum is rocking full donkey show with Glock 18s, M-16s, and AK-47s.

And now back to the mundane; lawsuit filed against Hawaii's ban on guns in most places by Hawaii Firearms Coalition.

The case is found as Wolford v Lopez. In the complaint, the plaintiffs explain how the Bruen decision does not allow Hawaii to effectively neuter the right to carry arms in public by labeling most public and private spaces.

Progress on lawsuit halting enforcement of 'sensitive places' of law from the Truth about Guns blog.

Yesterday a United State District Court Judge granted the plaintiffs’ request for a restraining order blocking most of Hawaii’s law. So, Hawaii’s ban on carrying in parks, beaches, places that serve alcohol, banks, certain parking lots, and private property held open to the public (except by invitation) is blocked from taking effect — for now. But the fight is not over yet.
