Yellow jackets were bad in some stands..this is Thursday mornings stand..got in and did a quick sweep with a light and found these MFers that I had to spray.
I chose a stand that hadn't been previously hunted in for a week and the guy told me to expect some company
    DK Firearms

It was a full moon so early mornings were really slow. A few guys got some javelinas and pigs
Mid to late morning saw a uptick in movement
    I saw some nice bucks
But the rules was 8pt or better..prefer 10 or better
An 8 should be mature before taking him
Does were allowed as many as you had tags for

Thursday night I hadnt seen a buck I could take..a shooter passed thru but I never had an opportunity
So an hr before dark..not wanting to risk returning home meatless, I shot a doe high in the neck at 115 yards

And right at dusk..I spied a coyote in the road..and I judged it to be 150-175 yards..

So that was pretty much dead nuts for my .243 Savage
I love touching it off and hearing that yelp and watching them turn into themselves and bite at it.

When I walked down there all I found was this..now I can't explain it..but I gut ahot him..and the blood trail left more entrails like it..he was 15 ft off the road and assuming ambient temp when I found him

Now its Friday morning..no buck yet.
4 of the 5 guest have bagged a buck.
Some of them decided to head out for home that morning and pass on the last hunt.

I went out with 2 other hunters to the same stand as the night before because I liked the set up

It was foggy but right at 715 a nice buck stepped out at about 100 yards and after studying him from his right side seeing a nice typical rack and judging him to be 4 , I decided to take him.

He folded up and trotted off into the brush.

So i sat and finished my coffee and waited 30 minutes

I got down and went to the scene and found good blood and about every 8-10 feet, more blood.

He ended up being about 100 feet from the impact point so not bad.

I drug him up to the stand to save time and waited for the ranch employee

I was a little disappointed to find he was missing a G3 on the left side..bummer..he looks symmetric but really isnt.
Still a nice animal and I'm very happy

One other guest that morning also got a decent buck

After getting him to the barn for quartering, I went back to the house and tended to things..saw the last guest off and got out of there about 11
Rolled into the house at 6 and set the meat cooler up added ice and opened the drain into a bucket

I will let it sit like this a few days ans start bringing one quarter in at a time and cutting up for the grinder.

    Now the work begins!

I dont really know what to do with the rack
I don't want to mount it, even Euro
I just don't think it is nice enough being that its not even.

Not sure what I will do actually

    Naples TX.
Cut off the skull cap. .Flesh it out, scrub with bleach, . Let it sun dry, and mount it on a small plaque.
Most mine are on the patio, garage wall, shop wall. All my friends that don't have one, get one, to put over the garage/shop/barn door.

First thing that comes to mind is congrats on your trip. Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for taking the time to bring us along.

As for the rack, make some ink pen blanks and knife handles.

    Thank you!

I absolutely don't know anything about how to go about that.

Thanks for the ride-along. I spent a lot of time hunting quail in Jim Wells county - brought back fond memories. You need some pictures of some South Texas Green Jays - don't see them anywhere else.
