There's Reciprocity between GA and TX for CHL's.... I'm not sure how that works if you intend to get state residency though.

Hi! Thanks for joining us. Here's a link to pretty much all the info you could want to know on CHL's in Texas:

    http://www.texasguntalk.com/forums/gun-legislation/94-texas-chl-specific-laws.html

Texas does in fact have a reciprocity agreement with Georgia, of which the actual legal text can be seen here:

Texas Department of Public Safety - Courtesy, Service, Protection

    http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/Georgia.pdf

I'm not sure of all of the legal requirements and restrictions since you said you're moving here, however the jist of the reciprocity agreement is that the state of Texas does in fact honor GA chl's.

To get your permanant CHL here in Texas, start early before your reciprocity expires there is along line and wait.

It may be awhile. A person waiting on his CHL got a letter saying due to Hurricane Ike they would not be able to field parts of the background check until things get back to normal. Good luck.
