Help me identify this round

    I have a few cases that I can't identify. This case is virtually identical to a 30-06 case. In fact, they were mixed in with some 06 cases.

    The headstamp says "DEN" and "42" on it

    The case is basically the same length as a 06, but the case mouth is noticeably larger.

    I have no clue what this is.

    Well, it ain't 30-06. Mouth is way too big for 06. Somebody must have made something else out of those cases. I will measure tonight, but its got to be close to .40.

    My guess is its a home made case made into an 8mm x 06.
    Converting 8 x 57mm rifles into 8mm x 06 was popular in the years after World War Twice as 8mm rifle ammo wasn't easy to get.

    there is also the possibility it is a 333 OKH, .338/06, or even a 400 Whelen if the bullet diameter is as large as you say.

    I found the inch equivalent and will measure it. 8mm x 06 could be the winner. Its def the same size case as 30-06, but with a bigger mouth. 8mm = .323
