After putting a few hundred rounds through my P30, I'm considering getting a .45 for more punch (and to add an almost-cheating-edge to my IDPA shooting...lol)

I'm comparing the USP compact .45 for the new HK45. Both will be used in concealed carry most likely with the 8-round mag except when at the range for competition.

I'd like to know if there are any significant differences in the firing mechanics of both guns. Also if you have a preference i'd like to hear the reasoning behind it.

I disagree. I bought a USPc in 2008. Bought it for a carry gun. This summer, I bought a HK45c. Nice gun, but I found I preferred the USPc45. I sold the HK45c a month later, as I decided to buy something else with the $.
