I'm thinking of competing in IDPA matches in the near future and i'm looking for a holster for my Glock 17 . I have been looking at Fobus (paddle)holsters but I dont know if they meet the criteria for IDPA
    ?

Can someone give me some ideas or input? I appreciate it.

You'll like IDPA. It's a ton of fun. As far as holster criteria, I highly recommend reading the rulebook. You can download it free at www.idpa.com

There's very specific rules regarding holsters and they've even got pictures. :D
