is this a good range to shoot at? I will be at PowerStroke Enginuites all day saturday having some work done to my truck, driving up from corpus. I am thinking about taking some guns to go do some shooting. What do you guys think about this place?

It's not bad, but bring dollar bills if you want a clean target out up during cease fire

They charge a dollar to change the target to a clean one, I don't like it but they don't give you an option, it's so close I use it but there is better but much further drives

I like Hot Wells. They're pretty laid back and charge per gun instead of per shooter or per hour. I usually prefer that. I hate ranges that charge hourly, whether per gun or per person. The distances are set on both rifle and pistol ranges, but you can ask them to hang up your targets, and also to retrieve them on the next change-out. Otherwise, it's $1 for a new one.

The only bad thing about Hot Wells is the parking lot can have potholes the size of bathtubs. I went there once in my Vette - big mistake. Take the truck every time now.

I live walking distance from SGA which has the nicest indoor range in Houston (IMO of course), but don't mind driving 30min to Hot Wells specifically because they don't charge hourly. I hate being rushed.

It's a nice place with nice folks, but definitely keep an eye on the public. There's been quite a few wandering muzzles lately for some reason, new shooters who can't seem to keep the barrel pointed down range. Much more tame on the rifle side though.

Do they charge for the target or to hang the target for you? The former implies they make you use their targets. I hate that. I have my own targets that are of much higher quality than anything I've ever seen at any range in the Houston metro area and I deeply resent being forced to use the substandard crap that ranges keep in stock.

I haven't shot there in quite a while due to a long-lasting injury to my right wrist. However, I always went at off times and found that when the lanes weren't full and they didn't have a waiting list, they didn't ask anyone to leave the range at the one-hour mark. Even when the range is full, I've never seen them ask someone to leave, only to pay for another hour if the patron wanted to stay.

If they've changed and are now like Gander Mountain, where there's an RSO standing behind you to escort you out *exactly* 60 minutes after you enter the range, then I'll have to re-think my future patronage.
