Just for the hell of it, old memories on an ancient thread:

You've been around Houston for a while if you rode horseback through Herman Park.

Vaughn Parish owned the original stables on Almeda Rd, and provided rent horses to ride through the park.

We would take a long drive into Houston on occasion, and for a treat we'd rent horses after going downtown to go to the Majestic Theater on a Saturday.

22 years later, well after he'd moved the stables out West of town, and after I got out of the service, went to work for him as his farrier, taught hunt seat equitation, and rode his new rank horses to settle them down.

One of the best old time horseman I've ever known. I still have an old mule harness that was used on the two mules he used in both locations that were used to pull the wagon that were used to cleanout the stalls daily.
