A buddy of mine works in DC... He's still at work and getting paid because of the contracts they have, but there's no actual work to do because the people he supports aren't there. He says the shutdown is a big deal up there, but I told him back here in reality (aka Texas) no one really cares :green:

Went to the farm and ranch show and was participating in some seminars to get CEU's for my private applicators license. One seminar was supposed to be about weather and the forecast for 2014. Well due to the shut down the guy from the weather service wasn't able to attend. So far this is the only direct effect it has had on me.

Being retired, the government shutdown hasn't affected me in the slightest. It would be a different story if I was still at my former job. That was with a government contractor and currently, no one is going uprange. All flights are canceled. If I were still at that job I'd be doing what I'm doing now......sitting on my ass doing nothing. But being retired, I'm at least still getting paid monthly.

Far from true. I am a govt contractor here in SA, and there are many of us being affected by the shutdown. I can't go into detail but it has directly impacted me and not in a good way.

Still, I do think it is necessary; the Federal government cannot continue to spend itself deeper into debt. Programs such as Obamacare, whether you support it or not, are too costly to implement right now when the focus needs to be on cutting costs not increasing them. Raising the debt ceiling doesn't solve things either, it simply delays the inevitable. The firmly believe the Republicans are trying to set things straight whereas the Democrats are taking it as a way to prevent them from furthering their socialist agenda. I am also embarrassed by our President's reaction and reluctance to negotiate a solution to the problem. His playing golf while all this is occurring is equally sad, it shows he really is an elitist who, if he doesn't get his way, refuses to work with any bipartisan efforts to resolve matters...

It's hitting me really hard, I am still working but not getting paid for it since I am essential. We were told last night we might not get paid for our time worked and SUCK IT UP. I am out raged by this to say the least.... My agency is also acting like this came out of the blue and was a huge surprise.... I guess that what happens in DC they loses sight of the big picture.
On the other hand I am all for the shut down but it also needs to be the FFA, the ports and close the boarders, we are closed for business go the **** away!!!!
I hope every crack pot in DC looses their next election.....
    **** them all!!!!!

The only thing to keep in mind is bigger government equal less freedom, our government has grown far too large and as it grows it becomes more dangerous. With less then half our population actually working it becomes more difficult to feed those who don't and that includes government who do not turn out a marketable product. At some point the system breaks down as we hire more government workers at higher salaries while civilian salaries are lower, in time it simply fails. I draw these conclusion after nearly 50 years in the work place both civilian and government.

The republicans need to get this message out better and make it clear its about the debt/deficit.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

I know one thing, if the repubs cave on this it will be a HUGE loss.

Obama is refusing to talk, dems know if they cave repubs will start gaining leverage. The outcome of this standoff will decide the direction Washington goes from now till the next round of elections.

here's my thoughts on the republicans........as much as i hate Obamacare - the facts are that the majority won

and its foolish to think that they can hold the country hostage and get this president to back off his most major piece of legislation - that IS his legacy - good or bad

i think the best thing the republicans can do is to start chipping away at the bill one little piece at a time - start looking for the real issues and make the law better - but once it's been given to the people and ruled on by SCOTUS - its a fairy tale to think this is going to be repealed

i wish it werent so - but thats the truth.......in the end, they are accomplishing nothing by this - they're going to be bigger losers in the long run when it comes to the 2016 POTUS election

just my two cents......and again - i'd rather be working than sitting at home......although the golf this past week wasnt horrible ;)

The Republicans are definitely swinging for the fences on this. I dont know how it would work long term once people get weak in the knees? Speaker gets replaced and a vote is held?

Unfortunately the Constitution has been so trampeled by this administration, shutting down the government is a reasonable response.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

Also slavery and prohibition were once "law of the land" and held up by scotus.

nice comparison......one i dont agree with at all but its the internet so we can agree to disagree

i remember how they passed this bill - they didnt even read it - i get all that

i'm simply saying the GOP in the house have outkicked their coverage - unfortunately we dont have a majority in the senate - and even if we did - O would use his veto power to kill any effort to strike down the ACA in whole

leadership means making this law better - making it palatable - there are many many ways of doing that......in my opinion, thats how they gain traction with the american people - as problem solvers
