I've always maintained that America knows more about American Idol than the Presidential Election. Most Americans know nothing of the political process, but they're tuned into the irrelevant, pop culture gossip. Sure, we can blame our media, but the fault ultimately lies with us. We gobble this stuff up like Halloween candy, but aren't interested in the more germane facts. Our public school system doesn't teach it and, unless we seek this information out, we just don't get it. Let's face it. Most Americans really aren't interested. If it's not juicy or controversial, we're just not interested. Very, very sad.
Our American Dream has all but faded. I've always rejected the saying, "We get the government we deserve." I don't deserve this. Unfortunately, I'm not in the majority, it seems, and those who wished for it are about to get it. There's no better education than the hard slap of reality.
