It's the Mossberg 590A1 with marinecote and 18.5" barrel. I handled one at the gunstore and this is one handy, sturdy, and rust-resistant gun.

I know it's labelled as a 590A1, but a 'real' 590 has a 20" bbl and is a 9-shot. That one is shorter and a bit more handy, and the 500-series A1 guns survived the military torture tests.

Well it's low maintenance and reliable, two plusses in my book for that situation.

I can tell from the other thread on what three guns people would want in SHTF that I will have the minority opinion on this, but I really don't see the utility of a combat shotgun in a survival situation. I would rather have a shotgun setup for hunting game. As for defense, off the top of my head I can't think of anything a shotgun can do that a carbine can't do better.

The thing a carbine can't do better is CQC but that's about it, the scatter gun still rains supreme for CQC. Well CQC and bird hunting.
