    Lawyer took out a loan to pay the bill. So he gets to pay gift tax(maybe) and interest on the loan - depending on who gave the loan - who might just write it off.
    Crazy world of finance and getting worse. Take out a loan, get insurance for the loan, get somebody to inure the insurance on the loan, default on the loan and get taxpayers to pay off the insurers and the loan.
