I bought my first shotgun today.

Mossberg Maverick 88. Broke her in with some Winchester Universal shells and shot all 100 shells without a hitch.

She fits quite nicely behind my seats in my Regular Cab...

Get an 18.5" barrel and it will be a great home defense weapon. That 28" barrel is great for shooting clay pigeons (or geese), but would be cumbersome anywhere but in an open field.

I agree about the barrel. And you can switch them back and forth really easily.

My Mossberg 500 was a 1 hour project for me last weekend. :patriot:

You might also put a tru-glo fat bead fiber optic sight. It's so much easier to pick up FO sight than the stock bead.

Thanks Mac! Yeah I do need a cleaning kit for it. I got it at academy real cheap.

When is the next gun show? I am dying to go again.

I got both of those guns during that sale too!
I bought a Mossberg 88 a few months back...same as this one but I got a 20 gauge. Going back for the 12 gauge soon. Last week they were still $156, which is a great price. You can use alot of the Mossberg 500 aftermarket stuff...

i believe so...but double check that. I think the only difference is that the 88 is made in Mexico and there is a slight difference in the trigger mechanics.
Disclaimer: I am not an expert on these, so check with Mossberg...

Actually the 88s are assembled in Eagle Pass, Texas which is a border town, and I believe the parts are machined in Mexico and brought over for assembly. The Mav88s are great inexpensive shottys. Tons of conversion kits makes them very flexible. Like buying an old Chevy truck, tons of parts out there.

Your gun looks great, enjoy customizing it! Here's what I put on one of mine so far.

    1. 18 in barrel.
    2. pistol rear grip.
    3. side saddle.
    4. heat shield.
    5. surefire flashlight

Next I am planning to get a pistol fore grip (pump) and a foldable stock. Shooting high brass is pretty wild with a shorty, the 88s are real light and kick like Jackie Chan. I've got to get a front pistol grip if I want to fire in succession and be accurate.

Depends on what you want to do:
Vang Comp for metal trigger group and aluminum safety
Knoxx Specops or Mesa Tactical for a telescoping AR stock
Mesa Tactical for a Picatinny rail (for mounting red dot etc.)
Surefire forend light or Insight Tech Gear for light and mount (my preference)
    Mossberg Ghost Ring Sight
    Mossberg Heat Shield
    Tacstar side saddle

    Just a few suggesstions.
    Good Luck and have fun!
