A few days ago we had some very windy weather move thru here.
The pecan trees out in the back yard dropped many limbs.
Today I went to gather them up to dispose of them.
So my old decrepit self is out there picking up.
As I was reaching down something moved in the grass. At first I didn’t recognize it.
It was a snake. A coral snake no less. I jumped back. Very quickly I grabbed a shovel and went to kill the thing.
Suddenly I stopped.
I watched the snake for a moment. It had stopped moving when I did. It really was a beautiful creature.
A sadness came to me. I didn’t want to destroy something so pretty. I let it go.
For the first time in my life I let a venomous snake go on its way.
If it had been a liberal or a Californian I would of smashed the ever living brains out of it.
