My mother held me over a lighted gas stove. Not just once ....dozens of times! It was her favorite punishment. That really flips the terror switch on a kid!

Dad tied me up with rope, grabbed me by the throat held me up against the wall, beat the shit out of me while screaming/cursing me in language that I knew was bad but didn't fully understand.

Hell, that was the better stuff. The rest would turn your F' ing stomach!

I got big, mean, tough and fast and took a knife to the MF before I left at 17................forever!
