I was in high school back in the mid sixties. It was not uncommon for guys with pickup trucks (only single cabs back then) to have a gun rack in the back window. The number of rifles or shotguns varied from one to three. I drove a '65 GTO, so I couldn't participate. No one thought anything about it back then. In fact sometimes at lunch we would go to a guy's truck to look at a new firearm. We would get it out and take turns trying out the fit. Sometimes the firearms were loaded! On one occasion our high school principle even joined us.
People had more respect back then. No one would ever think about going into a school and shooting his classmates. Of course there were no cellphones or social media back then either. You had to do something especially good to get your 15 minutes of fame back then. Things like being the football captain or the senior homecoming queen.
Damn I miss the good old days.
